Thrifty Twosday (LBD edition)

I wanted to showcase the "little black dress"/LBD in this edition of Thrifty Twosdays.

"Thrifting" or thrift store shopping, can change the entire concept of the LBD.  It can take you out of the normal confines of a standard look, and open your mind to an LBD with a little more personality.

A faux wrap around dress from the 80's paired with some sexy stilettos will have you turning heads while you reminisce.  Perfect for any night on the town!

Faux wrap around dress: vintage, thrifted ~$5.00

For a little more sophistication: tone it down with sling back pumps and a classic retro look that pairs pleats and ruffles.
Belted dress with pleats: vintage: thrifted ~$3.00 50% off thrift store price!

If "thrifting" just isn't for you, there are still good deals to be had on unconventional LBDs all over the place.  For instance this ruffled number paired with a pair of peep-toe pumps is perfect for a party or even a hot date:

Black and gold ruffled dress: $12.00 marked down from $120.00 Connected Apparel (Elder Beerman's) That's 90% off!

Do you have a favorite LBD?  Show us!  And show off!

LOTD

I actually wear this outfit several ways but this is just one of them.

Teal/black sunnies-$5.00 booth at a fair
Navy Blue/White striped top- $6.95 H&M
Yellow high-waist bandage skirt-$59.50 Express (yikes! I know it's horrendous but when you have Express bucks/coupons to use it's not so bad-it's worth to it have a few items that are a little higher quality and it is a 5 star skirt).
Studded gladiators- $9.99 Alloy
Studded Bangles set of 3 (2 shown)- $9.99 Alloy

I'm still trying to find a comparable skirt to the bandage one above from Express that has the optional length (as this one does).  I, personally have to have it longer though it looks great short too.  If I find one I'll pass on the info.

Stay beautiful ladies, and as always, click images to enlarge!

Thrifty Twosday

Today we're gonna talk Sonia Kashuk!  Her products are probably my favorite "drug store" brand out there.  Here are two that I use every single day.

First is the concealer palette.  3 colors and a setting powder for $9.99 is awesome.  If you have hardcore dark circle under you eyes like me then you need at least 2 colors to fully conceal them.  One to neutralize the darkness and one to conceal.  I use the salmon color for neutralizing and the lightest one to conceal, then I set it with the powder and I'm good to go.

Any/all of the brushes.  I haven't used every one of them, but I have quite a few that I use daily and I would say they are very comparable to more expensive counterparts especially for what you pay.  I use some of mine more than the ones I paid a lot more money for as a matter of fact!

Target is where I find Sonia Kashuk cosmetics, so if you have one nearby, I suggest you try these for yourself!

Thrifty Twosday

Today I'm mentioning two drugstore products again that I use and have repurchased.  Keep this in mind for future that we will never mention any items that we haven't used and don't love.

First off is the Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo.  This comes in 2 types.  One for oily/straight hair, and one for dry/curly hair.  I use to the one for straight hair and for the price you really can't beat the results.  When you use this product you must make sure that you follow the directions and shake it every time you spray otherwise you will end up with white flakey hair.  And it can be brushed out but it's much more of a hassle.  Also you don't want to spray too much because you really don't need a lot.  This product is perfect for those of you who want to refresh your hair after working out without washing it or for those of us with color treated hair (like me).  Washing your hair too much will definitely fade the color quickly so dry shampoos can take you through more days in between washing.  The one for curly hair is more of a foam so the directions are a bit different but if you do get that one make sure you follow those directions too.  After you use this product it will make your hair more matte looking (that is the point) but if you use a shine serum or a shine hairspray just add a bit of that after and you're good to go.  There is a spray you can get from Tresemme to use after this dry shampoo but I just use what I already have.

Next is the L'oreal Lineur Intense felt tip eyeliner.  This product WILL dry out after a while, so you will have to get another one once it starts to get a little flakey when applying but it is a really good liquid eyeliner.  The felt tip gives you a good amount of movement without being too much.  It also gives you the ability to make a very fine line or a very thick line depending on how much pressure you use.  It's very comparable to other high end brands that have felt tip liquid liner pens and I believe I paid 2 dollars and something at Target for mine so it's MUCH cheaper than say one from Lancome.  I've repurchased this product about 3 times now since I discovered it, and I plan to keep doing so!

Finally a New LOTD

Summer is finally on it's way here in Washington!

It's been a while! So sorry about that but things have been hectic, and although I have lots of looks to show you, it's hard to do with just yourself, even with a tripod (I only have a small one), but my photographer (aka husband) will be coming home shortly (finally) so that will make things much easier.  They aren't the best pictures but I did the best I could.  Thanks for being patient (as always).  You guys and gals are fabulous!    This is the dress I wore to church today and I pretty much live in dresses in summertime so you'll be seeing more soon!

Here is a better shot of the sandals I paired it with.  Cream colored like the dress with shell embellishments.

Paired with a green sweater and crossbody bag....

And the perfect summertime accessory...sunnies!

Dress:  H&M $19.95
Sandals: Alloy $9.99 (Bamboo)
Sweater: Wal-Mart clearance $5.00 (George)
Shoulder bag: Thrifted $2.00
Oversized sunnies: Alloy $2.99

Sassy and sweet for under $40.00, and I will be living in this dress this summer.  It's SO lightweight and feminine!  It's perfect for picnics, walks, Sundays at church, and anything else you can dream up.  The umpire waist makes it flattering for all accentuating the smallest part of your torso.

Question for the readers:  Do you like when we post the prices or do you want us to just post where we got it and what the brand is?

Thrifty Twosdays

Along with occasionally posting some of our many thrifted items we find on these days we will also use this time to talk about inexpensive items we love. Today we spotlight:

Maybelline's Dream Matte blush in Peach Satin.
Absolutely adore this blush. Goes on so smoothly and I've found myself turning to this most days. I especially love it when applied with a skunk brush.

L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara in Blackest Black.
Givenchy has a similar one (I haven't personally tried) with the same kind of shaped applicator for about 4 times the price. This one is only like $8 so it's much kinder on my wallet. It's much easier to get all of your eyelashes with this applicator. The downside is that the wand is very bendy (and could break easily if you are rough with it), and it's not super great at giving you a ton of volume but it does lengthen pretty well. It also does dry a bit and flake a little if worn for a very long time but I really don't notice it often-and I've worn it quite a bit for long lengths of time. The blackest black is also not as black as I would like but maybe they will remedy that in the future. All in all it's a great buy-one that I don't regret at all.

If you have any items you would like us to try, or would like to let us know about, feel free to send us a comment or email.
